When she began her career as an actor, she was an infant model. Her nomination for the Theatre World Award for "one of the most promising actors 1956-57" for her role in The Potting Shed. Lynley began her career in film in the year 1958 with The Light in the Forest, a Disney film The Light in the Forest and was following by Holiday for Lovers (1959) and Blue Denim (1959). In 1959 she was nominated to win the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer-Female for the movie The Light in the Forest. In the following year, she was again nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Female Newcomer for the film Blue Denim.
