
Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959)[2] is an American actress. Her performances on screen and on stage were a highlight of her career which spans over three decades. Janney has been awarded numerous awards such as an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as a Golden Globe Award, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards, in addition to being nominated to win the two Tony Awards. Janney was born in Boston but was raised at home in Dayton (Ohio). Her career began when she got a grant to studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after graduating from Kenyon College. Janney began her TV debut in 1999 as C. J. Cregg as a character in NBC's drama series The West Wing (2000-2006). The role earned her Four Primetime Emmy Awards for this role. In 2014, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her character Margaret Scully on the Showtime period drama Masters of Sex.
